Why we need new leadership

Chuck Schumer
- One of AIPAC's top recipients in US Politics. Ever.
Chuck Schumer has stated his job as leader is to "fight for aid to Israel - all the aid that Israel needs."1 Schumer has received $1,727,974, placing him at 9th overall in Pro-Israel donations all time between 1990-2024 for the senate.2
- Handed Donald Trump the votes on their 2025 spending bill
In March 2025, a day after saying Democrats would not supply the votes, he voted to advance the Republican continuing resolution and gave Trump a win without getting anything in return. No plan. No action. Just deference.
Source - Couldn't hold his caucus through the 2025 shutdown
Eight members of his caucus broke ranks to end the fall 2025 shutdown without the health care deal Democrats had held out for. Members of his own party called for new leadership afterward.
[source needed] - Led Senate Democrats since 2017
Nearly a decade at the top, and he would be 76 at the start of the next Congress. The party needs leaders built for the fight it's in now.
[source needed] - Sat out the race when New York's Democratic nominee for mayor needed him
He never endorsed Zohran Mamdani, his own city's Democratic nominee, who went on to win.
[source needed] - Voted against limits on offensive arms sales to Israel
As more and more Senate Democrats backed resolutions to block specific weapons sales, he voted no.
[source needed] - Backs establishment picks in contested primaries
He recruits and backs safe, establishment candidates over the energized challengers voters are turning out for.
[source needed] - A majority is a mandate to use power, not manage it
The Majority Leader decides what reaches the floor, whether the filibuster survives, and how hard the Senate pushes on nominations and oversight. Those calls need someone whose instinct is to fight, not to fold.
Our view

Hakeem Jeffries
- "Israel today, Israel tomorrow, Israel forever."
Hakeem Jeffries opposes any amendment or effort to curtail aid to Israel. Jeffries has received $1,741,230 from the lobby, placing him 7th amoung all house members 1990-2024.1 The quote above is directly from Jeffries during a 2014 rally.2
- Created his own PAC to stop progressive politicians from gaining power.
Hakeem Jeffries launch Team Blue PAC, which exists to defend sitting Democrats against progressive primary challengers. He is, quite literally, trying to hold the party back from progress to maintain the status quo.
Source - Does not want to impeach Donald Trump or hold republicans accountable.
Hakeem has stated that he does not see
[source needed] - Waited until the last minute to back the Democratic nominee for NYC mayor
He held off on endorsing Zohran Mamdani for months after Mamdani won the primary, and endorsed only in late October 2025.
[source needed] - Has called the left wing of his own party an enemy
He has said he will never "bend the knee" to democratic socialism. That is the movement driving turnout in his own city.
[source needed] - A cautious response to an emergency
Through 2025, while voters demanded a fight, House leadership preferred press conferences and process objections to using every tool it had.
[source needed] - The Speaker's gavel is the strongest tool Democrats will hold
Subpoenas, oversight hearings, and leverage on every must-pass bill. A Speaker who spent the minority years urging caution won't wield that power at full strength.
Our view
"But we just won. Why change leaders now?"
Because voters didn't hand Democrats a majority to keep doing what they did in the minority. The wave came from people demanding a fight. Leadership elections are the one moment members can change course at no cost to the majority: no seats lost, no special elections, just a vote inside the caucus. Rewarding the leaders who urged caution through 2025 teaches the party the wrong lesson at the exact moment it has the power to act.
